etest associates provides good news for ITN
ITN is
the UK’s largest commercial news provider, and broadcasts daily to a
world-wide audience of over 30 million people. Four years ago, ITN
established a New Media department to deliver a website for the 1997 UK
General Election. Since then, their new media operations have
expanded rapidly, and for the 2001 General Election, they needed to
develop a multi-platform interactive election service. To test the
service fully, ITN New Media called in London-based etest associates.
The new
service provided extensive and integrated election coverage via the web,
digital terrestrial television and digital cable. In the week
before polling, viewers could access guides to their constituency and
keep abreast of the latest election news. On election night, ITN
provided one of the fastest online results services, in conjunction with
their television and radio broadcasts. Due to the scale,
importance and complexity of the project, ITN New Media needed to ensure
that everything would operate smoothly and recognised that the new
service needed to be evaluated by professional testers.
Adrian Pryce, ITN New Media's Platforms Manager, explains: "We needed to
test the front end usability of the site and the functionality of the
various elements involved in the delivery of the final service.
This included websites for ITN and ITV; a mini-site for Channel 4; and
digital cable sites for ITN and ITV”.

associates subsequently carried out a range of tests on performance,
functionality, and browser/device compatibility. The results
highlighted a number of small but important issues, which the technical
team from ITN was then able to resolve.
Adrian Pryce concludes:
"The thorough testing of the election sites meant that we could
confidently deliver this large scale and complex project to our users
and clients. Using etest associates enabled the ITN technical team
to concentrate on the build and delivery, with a quick turn-around of
reported bugs. As a result, we gained the complete trust of our
corporate clients, both commercially and technically”.
